Dr. Kam Luoi Chow
OPTOMETRIST
Dr. Chow was born in Myanmar and later moved to the United States when she was 10 years old. Being a first-generation immigrant, she possesses a deep understanding of the limited ocular health awareness within her community. Determined to make a difference, she endeavors to serve as a vital link between eye care and her community. Dr. Chow firmly believes that by empowering her patients with comprehensive knowledge about eye care, she can encourage them to take proactive steps towards safeguarding their eye health effectively.
Dr. Chow earned her Doctor of Optometry degree from the New England College of Optometry. She completed her clinical training at a variety of institutions, such as Boston Medical Center, Veterans Affairs Hudson Valley Health Care, and Lynn Community Health Center, gaining valuable experience in diverse healthcare settings. During her clinical training, she concentrated on diagnosing and treating various ocular pathologies, such as glaucoma and macular degeneration. She also honed her skills in fitting specialty contact lenses for conditions like keratoconus, providing low vision aids for visually impaired patients, and specializing in pediatric eye care to ensure healthy vision development from a young age. Throughout her time in school, Dr. Chow was an active member of Student Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity (S-VOSH), there she had the incredible opportunity to participate in medical mission trip to the rural batey communities of the Dominican Republic. The initiative brought much-needed vision screenings, eyeglasses, medications, and education on eye health to residents who struggled to access quality eye care services.
After graduating, Dr. Chow started working at various optometry clinics, where she grew her passion for myopia control and dry eye treatment. Due to the shift in lifestyle post-pandemic, she began to see an increasing number of her younger patients exhibiting myopia, along with both younger and elder patients reporting symptoms of dry eyes. As her understanding deepened, Dr. Chow focused on developing advanced techniques for managing these conditions effectively. Currently, Dr. Chow is a member of the American Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, Gas Permeable Lens Institute and Scleral Lens Education Society.
Outside work, Dr. Chow enjoys quality time with loved ones and frequently visits art exhibitions in the city to immerse herself in creativity and culture.
